Until December, rice takes the spotlight at Scarlett Porto

The new “Rice & Co.” menu celebrates one of the most traditional foods of Portuguese and world cuisine, in five versions to taste and share.

This autumn, rice is the main protagonist of the new menu at the Scarlett Porto restaurant. Available exclusively until December, the “Rice & Co.” menu transports lovers of this food on a true sensory journey through traditional flavors such as seafood rice, fresh fish from the coast, clams and razor clams, as well as the iconic Italian risotto.

Originating, like Scarlett restaurants, from Asia, rice plays a prominent role in world gastronomy, and Portugal is no exception. Soft, versatile and capable of absorbing aromas and flavours, rice is an inseparable part of the Portuguese table from North to South of the country, both as a central element and as a side dish.

The “Rice & Co.” menu celebrates the gastronomic legacy of rice in its freshest version, with a taste of the sea. In all, there are five proposals with locally sourced fish and seafood, inspired by traditional Portuguese and Italian recipes, with the French touch that characterizes Scarlett Porto’s cuisine – in this case, through elements such as the delicious bisque sauce.

According to Charles-Edouard Le Tallec, Executive Chef of Scarlett Porto, “this menu was designed with the aim of highlighting the great potential of rice as a protagonist at the table, drawing inspiration from the Portuguese coast and the incredible flavors it provides. Often used as a side dish, here it is assumed as the star product, as a motto for the creation of fresh and balanced dishes, which, like the rice we consume today, result from the influence of different cultures for a harmonious and surprising result”.

Rice entered the Iberian Peninsula possibly in the seventh and eighth centuries, through the Arabs, as denoted by its name: the word rice originated from the Arabic term “ar-ruzz”. Its production in Portugal, however, began to be documented only in the early years of the eighteenth century.

The five courses of the “Rice & Co.” menu cost €16 (each) and are available for lunch, from 12PM to 5PM, at Scarlett Porto, in the heart of Invicta, and can be enjoyed both indoors and in the iconic Mediterranean-inspired patio of what is the first Scarlett restaurant in Europe.
